Project : Ibere Camargo Museum

Ibere Camargo Museum

PORTO ALEGRE, Brazil

This project received the Golden Lion Award in the Venice Architecture Biennale in 2002, becoming a model for Brazilian architecture. It was designed to be the home of more than 4000 of Ibere Camargo’s works, with 9 exposition rooms, a recording studio, auditorium and an underground parking garage. The building is made completely of concrete. Façade walls are in white concrete, and the interior is designed in ash grey concrete. Continuity of the façade is interrupted by large catwalks also made of white concrete.

Characteristics of the construction work made it unfeasible to use climbing consoles to execute work at the extreme heights on the concrete walls. Therefore, a scaffold was quickly set up, providing support and a safe surface on which to work. BRIO scaffolding was used such that on the extreme another tower was hoisted, permitting increased height.

The BRIO Ladder granted access to the different levels of the scaffold. The T-60 Towers were used to shore-up the slab of the 22 m high roof. Its 6 Ton capacity per upright permitted the slab prop sufficient space between the towers. Metal beams were used to assemble the work platforms on the construction project’s peripheral scaffold, making it possible to anchor them to the wood floor and providing secure hoisting.
